IF YOU FEEL SORE THE NEXT DAY . . .
Step by step, millimetre by millimetre, right from your very first power yoga session, you’ll begin to reclaim your body’s full range of motion. You may well work muscles in a way that they’ve never been used before, so it’s perfectly normal to feel a little sore the next day. This soreness is due to a build up of lactic acid in your muscles. Surprisingly, the most effective way to relieve lactic acid build up in the muscles is to stretch! So coming back to class the next day is actually the best way to soothe your tender muscles! By practicing regularly you will be surprised how soon you’ll reap the benefits without any more soreness. You will become strong!
Expect to be challenged, no matter what your level of fitness!
That being said, we encourage you to set the pace for your own workout. Accept a playful challenge or take some time out to rest. It’s your call. There is no competition. The prize is in showing up and doing your personal best, what-ever that is on any given day. Our energy levels change from day to day. Respect and accept that. Practice accordingly! Yoga moves are not about imitating someone else or posing like a picture in a book. Listen to your body! It communicates directly with you in a way that no one else can fully know. Always practice according to what feels right!
Success is not necessarily measured on the scales, as muscle tone replaces the weight of fat. Your shape will be refined and maintaining your ideal weight becomes easier as self-sabotaging behaviours begin to lose their appeal.
Before your Hot Power Yoga Session:
- Make sure that you’ve had plenty of water* to drink throughout the day, so that your whole body is well hydrated.
*1.5 – 2 litres during the day is good. This does not mean tea, coffee, fruit juices or fizzy drinks, since these do not actually hydrate your body. Just good, plain and simple drinking water. If you’re not used to drinking lots of water, then lucky that you’ve read this! Initially you may have to take a few extra trips to the toilet, but after a while your body will adjust to and thank you for the increased water intake.
- Arrive 10 – 15 minutes early to register, meet the teacher and to settle in and relax a little before you begin.
What to bring:
- Bring a bath sized towel, or even two (one to shower, one for the session) or hire ours for $2.00 each.
- Change of clothing and a bag for your sweaty yoga clothes!
- Although lockers are provided, best to avoid bringing valuables or large amounts of cash.
- A yoga mat (free mat hire included for 10 days intro) or $1.00 to hire per session there after.
- A positive attitude.
- Bring a smile and be prepared to sweat!
- Give yourself a break! Switch off your mobile phones and leave them in your locker.
After your hot power yoga session:
- We’ve got showers and change facilities. Feel free to freshen up. Otherwise an Epsom-salt bath is pretty darn good. The ocean is nice too!
- Drink plenty of water! At least a litre, or even up to two litres if you’re bigger. Mix in electrolytes, either a good quality sea-salt (1.25 tspn / ltr.) or those contained in good quality sports drink formulas. This will help re-hydrate you on a cellular level and maintain your energy levels after a sweaty session.
- Studio mats are hung up over the railing inside the yoga room. Hired towels go in the basket located just outside the change rooms or toilets.
- Feel free to hang out for a bit. Meet some of the other yogis or chat to the teacher or staff.
- Come back the next day, even if you’re sore.
- Bring some friends along with you. Like most journeys, yoga is more fun when shared with friends.
